Ramsay McDonald Pty. Ltd. was founded in 1962, fulfilling the lifelong dream of its visionary founder. With over 60 years of experience in the textile industry, the company is dedicated to delivering the highest quality services and solutions to its clients. The founder, Ramsay McDonald, started his journey in textiles at the age of 13, honing his skills in the weaving sheds of Prestige Limited. At the age of 38 he finally decided to establish his own business and attend his first ITMA Exhibition in Hanover in 1963 where he secured the majority of the companies’ representations still held to this day, indicating how successful and loyal connection RMCD has with its principals.

In 1968 Ramsay’s Son Peter began spending time at the company while still attending university where he completed his engineering and Textile Technology degree. After gaining valuable practical experience in the wool industry, Peter also spent time working at the Somet factory in Colzate Italy learning much about the production of the Somet weaving machine now known as ITEMA.

In 1970, Ramsay McDonald became the distributor for the Somet rapier weaving loom and imported 30 machines, which it then sold to the weaving industry. This, along with the founder's invention of a micro-grooved plastic textile cone, enabled the company to rapidly expand into worsted spinning in 1973.

The McDonald family then diversified into the food industry, acquiring Kempster & Love, a manufacturer of equipment for food processing, and Bayliss Electronics Industries, a manufacturer of metal detectors for various industries. In 1989, the McDonalds sold their worsted spinning manufacturing operation to the Brazilian company Bunge. At this time, Ramsay McDonald decided to retire, and Peter McDonald assumed full control, focusing entirely on their agency and food processing fields. They recently acquired the highly respected textile agency Noel P. Hunt & Co. (Aust) Pty. Ltd. Today, the Ramsay McDonald Group has branches in New South Wales, South Australia, New Zealand, and Vietnam, offering a comprehensive and trustworthy service to clients globally.

Responsible for the RMCD group. His focus was to grow the agency business in both Textile and Food processing technology. In 1989 he acquired 2 of the RMCD’s competitors, namely Noel P. Hunt and Frachlee P/C. One year later he acquired Vance and McKee P/C the oldest textile company operating in Australia founded in 1894. In 1995 Peter entered into negotiations with the USA based Heat + Control to acquire their Australian operation, but instead entered into a joint venture with Heat + Control. In 2000 he sold KLB to Heat + Control.

The company has remained true to the promotion of the highest level of textile technology, and in 1970 became a distributor for both Somet and Lognetex Italy. Ramsay was also accredited for the development of the Micro-groove plastic textile cone which Ramsay McDonald P/C sold the right to the Italian company M.Scaglia.

In 1973 Ramsay McDonald entered into the manufacturing industry by establishing the first continental worsted spinning company in the southern Husbbplace Known as Yasmar Yarns (an anogram of Ramsay), Yasmar rapidly became the No.1 worsted spinning company in Australia, and within 10 years had acquired 2 of its major competitors of growing the company’s capacity to 780 000 kgs of worsted spun yarn per year (AUD $ 19.5 million Revenue)
